Menopause happens due to declining levels of reproductive hormones, primarily estrogen. At the same time, a woman’s body increases the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Therefore, the determination of the FSH level can help to determine if you are in menopause. FSH can also be elevated during perimenopause, but it’s not consistently high — it tends to fluctuate a lot during this transitional phase.
When should the test be performed?
Testing for menopause is recommended for women under 45 with symptoms like: hot flashes, irregular cycles, joint pains, or mood changes.
How to perform the test?
The kit contains 2 tests. The first test should be performed in the first week of the menstrual cycle (between day 2 and 7 of the cycle). The second tests should be used exactly 1 week later. The test should be done using the first morning urine, as it contains the highest concentration of FSH, making the results more reliable.
Before performing the test, read the detailed instructions in the package insert included in the kit.
